FAQ

ECU tuning software — frequently asked questions

What is Map Decoder?

Map Decoder is an AI-powered ECU tuning software platform. It analyses an original ECU file (ORI), automatically detects the relevant calibration maps, and generates validated patches — DPF/EGR/AdBlue off, DTC removal, checksum correction and Stage 1/2 — packaged as a ready-to-flash MapPack.

What is an ECU map decoder?

An ECU map decoder is a tool that locates and identifies the calibration tables (maps) inside an ECU binary — fuel, boost, torque limiters, emission strategies and more. Map Decoder performs this automatically using map recognition, so you do not have to find each map manually like in a traditional hex editor.

Is Map Decoder a WinOLS alternative?

Yes. Map Decoder covers the core WinOLS workflow — ECU file analysis, map detection, original-vs-modified comparison, checksum correction and patch generation — with an automated, AI-assisted pipeline and a validated patch catalogue, instead of fully manual map editing.

Which ECU brands and families are supported?

Map Decoder supports Bosch, Continental, Delphi, Siemens (Siemens VDO), Denso and Valeo ECUs, across families including EDC16, EDC17, MD1, MG1, SID, DCM, MED, PCR and MEVD, covering 35+ vehicle brands and thousands of models.

What is checksum correction and does Map Decoder do it automatically?

After an ECU map is modified, the file's checksums no longer match its contents and the ECU may reject the flash. Checksum correction recalculates these values so the modified file is accepted. Map Decoder applies checksum correction automatically as part of patch generation.

What are DAMOS and A2L files?

DAMOS and A2L are description files that label the addresses, names and scaling of the maps inside an ECU. When available they make map identification more precise. Map Decoder can use this metadata to improve automatic map detection and reduce manual work.
