Who is responsible
Map Decoder operates this website and the Map Decoder software. For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, write to info@mapdecoder.com.
Contact form
When you send the form on the contact page we record your name, e-mail address, the message itself and, if you fill it in, your phone number. Together with it we store the interface language you were using, your IP address and your browser identification. The message is also forwarded to our own e-mail address so that a person can answer it. The e-mail address and phone number are used to reply to you; the IP address and browser identification are kept to recognise and block abuse of the form.
Live chat
The chat window on this site is provided by tawk.to, a service outside Turkey and the European Union. If you open it, what you type, your IP address and technical details of your browser are processed by that provider on our behalf, and the provider places its own cookies in your browser. The chat is entirely optional: if you never open it, no chat data is created. You can always use the contact form or e-mail instead, and the form does not involve this provider at all.
Technical records
Like any web server, ours records the address of each request, the time, the IP address it came from and the browser identification. These records exist to keep the service running and to investigate faults and attacks. The icon set used on these pages is loaded from a public content delivery network, which means your browser contacts that network and it sees your IP address.
Language preference
When you choose a language, that choice is stored in your own browser so the site opens in the same language next time. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
No tracking or advertising
This site carries no analytics service, no advertising network and no tracking pixels. We do not build profiles of visitors and we do not sell or rent anyone's data.
Licence holders and the software
If you hold a licence, we keep the account details you gave us and the records needed to run the licence. When you open a support request from inside the software, we store what you wrote and, if you attach one, the ECU file you uploaded. Those files are used only to investigate the request you opened.
Compatibility check on this website
When you use the compatibility check, the ECU file you choose is uploaded to our servers and stored, together with the time of the check, your IP address, your browser identification, the ECU you selected and the result. We use this to run the check you asked for, to limit free checks per IP address per day, and to review ECU files and software versions we do not support yet. The file is not shared with anyone and no modified file is produced. This data is processed because you asked us to run the check.
Why we are allowed to use this data
Account, licence and support data is processed because it is necessary to provide the product you bought. Contact messages and technical records are processed because we have a legitimate interest in answering enquiries and in protecting the service from abuse. Chat data is processed on the basis of your own choice to start a conversation. Some records are also kept because accounting and tax law requires it.
How long it is kept
Contact messages and chat transcripts are kept while they are still useful for the enquiry and then deleted. Account, licence and support records are kept while the licence is in use and afterwards for as long as legal and accounting obligations require. Technical records are kept only for a short period.
Files uploaded to the compatibility check are kept until we have reviewed them and are then deleted.
Who else sees it
Your data is handled by the companies that provide the services this site runs on: the chat provider, the e-mail provider that delivers our messages and the company that hosts the servers. They act on our instructions and for no other purpose. We do not sell data and we do not pass it to anyone else, unless the law obliges us to.
Your rights
You can ask what data of yours we hold, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to our using it. Write to info@mapdecoder.com and we will answer. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to the data protection authority in your own country.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own. The only cookies you may receive come from the chat provider, and only after you open the chat window. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Changes to this policy
If the way we handle data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Please check it from time to time.
